Smriti Irani hits the headlines again; strolls in to Starbucks sans security

It’s not every day that one sees an Indian Politician walking into an eatery, standing in a queue, placing her order and patiently waiting for it to arrive. While most ministers take pride in being seen with their security personnel, who help them break queues and push past others, Union Minister Smriti Irani provided a much needed break from this boorish behavior, when she calmly stepped into the famous Starbucks Coffee Shop at Connaught Place (C.P.) without any fuss.

In all her years under the spotlight, Smriti Irani has found an equal number of trolls and fans on online platform. On Friday, her fans found more reasons to praise her, when a Facebook post showed the recently incumbent Union Textiles Minister halting for coffee at a Starbucks outlet in the capital. According to Nimish Dubey, who shared the post, Smriti has been a regular at the Starbucks in N-Block, Connaught Place, in central Delhi. She always stands in the queue, places and collects her order herself, and leaves without the fuss of an entourage or security. An older post also talks about her pleasant interaction with the staff of the restaurant, where she gratifies them with pictures, too. 

“You can poke fun at her for all you like, But we have been seeing her at Starbucks time and again, She comes on her own, Stands in a queue, Politely places her order, Goes to take it herself, And leaves quietly, No fuss, no entourage, no security, There are not too many ministers like that, Ladies and gentlemen, Smriti Irani,” he wrote on his FB account.

The Facebook post, which was posted on 5^th of August, has gone viral and has garnered thousands of likes so far. The minister is being widely applauded for her simplicity and style.
